| Translation Stage – Translation Project Backbone |
|
The translation stage is the backbone of a translation task. While communicating, both extraneous, i.e. with the customer, and internal, i.e. with the project group members, is really crucial throughout the project’s life-cycle, its function in the translation stage can't be accented enough. The project supervisor has to assure that the translators have all essential data pertaining to the task, including its targets, deadlines, the oftenness of feedback and the role of the translation. S/he should keep all interpreters in his/her group updated of any developing that might impact the translation. Any collapse at the level of communicating may have substantial effects. The function of CAT tools at this degree is priceless for the project in conditions of time, quality and price. In the past times, translators had to trust fully their memory to remember how they translated a duplicated sentence, or they could apply the search function in MS Word to place such sentences and ascertain how they translated them so to be logical in their translation. Additioally, they had to search for words manually in print glosses or dictionaries, or mechanically in terminological databases in such non-specialized application programs as Access, Excel or Word. With the invention of CAT instruments, much of such manual or insistent work has been eliminated. |
